Left the hotel early to beat the heat, starting to sound like a broken record!
We had decided to do the alternate route and skip Wauconda and Sherman Passes. The only disadvantage being it added 15 miles, but it took us off SR-20, decreased our elevation gain by 1600 feet, and we got to camp at an awesome biker camp that served breakfast!! We started off the ride with a 2900 ft elevation gain over 24 miles which got us to Wauconda, WA. We had lunch at the cafe/grocery/gas/post office all one building! They actually had delicious food :). Then we hopped off SR-20 onto a small road that boasted a 30 mile downhill to Curlew, we were skeptical... but indeed it was! We stayed at the New Recreation cycle camp and breakfast... Fabulous place! Keith and Susie offer up their beautiful backyard to camp in, and are very hospitable ! Highly recommend staying there if you ride through Curlew!
